Sucubus - Succubi. Satisfying Curiosity.
On the left of the top picture is what most people think a Succubus would be like. Sexy, stacked and with feathered wings and cloven hooves. This picture is a classic Boris Vallejo and for those who do not know his work, I can highly recommend him. I have two of his books - one done with Julie Bell his wife (an artist in her own right - I also have one of her sculptures). However, below is the nightmare of what a Succubus could be like when she comes to you in the night, clouding your mind and always on top. This picture I only know as the Wayne Barlowe Succubus but for me, it holds the intent of evil which Succubi are generally considered to be. In later posts I will introduce further elements of this mythology/reality? For those who are interested - look up 'Lilith' who some sources claim was Adam's first wife and a Succubus. Succubi appear worldwide in many religions other than just Christianity and it seems to be a widespread phenomenon. Is this an example of the collective subconscious at work or just a way of explaining away 'wet dreams'? All comments and pictures welcome and check out my book - 'The Final Song' at http://www.wordsmorph.com/ in which the main character gets seduced by a very attractive Demoness in much the same way I imagine a Succubus would function.
